Here we are in one of my favourite times on the fashion calendar, couture season. One of the first collections to come out is one of my favourite designers, Schiaparelli. Daniel Roseberry, as you may have seen in past collections, has been able in these trying times to create an archive of his own, by dressing Lady Gaga at Joe Bidens inauguration, also Beyoncé at the Grammys just to name a few. Roseberry has brought the house of Schiaparelli back and it’s more beautiful than ever.
This collection features lots of amazing, beautiful combinations of textures colours mixed with avant-garde jewellery and horns. Since this is a couture collection these pieces are meant to show the amazing artwork that the atelier produces, and boy does this collection show it. If you view the videos on Instagram and other websites you will just see the beautiful time and effort that went into these garments and all the unusual skins / fabrics used in the pieces that you can’t even tell that it is what it is. For instance, in look number 7 the metallic silver piece is composed of eel skin, this example shows just how haute couture is really done.
As I have said this collection features lots of mixed metals, mixing inspiration from Elsa’s archives and now classics of Roseberry such as the moulded chest plates and amazing extravagant earrings and massive gold roses holding up beautiful black materials. Now the gowns for this collection are just phenomenal and quintessential Roseberry, he is known for his amazing billowing fabrics then mixing that with the tight black bodices’. It’s just a mix made in heaven. In true couture fashion we end the collection with a wedding dress that has been constructed with 70 meters of white cartridge pleated fabric.
This collection it just another reason why couture season is one of the most enjoyable to view, some of my favourite pieces from this collection that I would love to have in my archives are looks 2, 19 and 27. Welcome to couture season I hope you are all ready for it.
