The Harry Styles Cardigan That Everyone And Their Mothers Are Making

Updated: Dec 8, 2022

Words by Elise Stavely

After Harry Styles wore the iconic JW Anderson cardigan on The Today Show in February, fans have whipped out their

knitting needles to create it themselves. Being a huge fan of Harry myself, I can’t deny asking my mother to make it for me, for that knitting is not in my particular field of expertise.

Harry Styles has become quite the style icon, pushing boundaries, wearing unique pieces and being inspired by the likes of Elton John, Mick Jagger and David Bowie. With all of his looks being iconic in themselves, we are not surprised by the impact this cardigan has had on fans, especially with COVID-19.

The JW Anderson Colourblock Patchwork Cardigan was among the Tiktok trend of recreating expensive clothing items, with this retailing around $1,250. The cardigan features a patchwork of primary colours creating a playful aesthetic, which was inspired by old children’s toys. As a result of people stuck in lockdown globally, they have taken to Tiktok to share their (or their mothers or grandmothers) attempts at making the cardigan themselves.

Attached are various Tiktok videos of fans making the cardigan

As you could see, these fans achieved it successfully, and I’d happily skip past the $1,250 price point and buy one off them please

With the cardigan becoming quite the internet sensation, CEO of JW Anderson, Jonathan Anderson made a statement on Instagram expressing his love for all of the fans recreating the iconic piece. Also, JW Anderson uploaded a YouTube video, providing instructions on how the cardigan is made, as shown by their Senior Knitwear Designer Janni Vepsäläinenhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-igQBecLdKI

If you would like to knit the famous cardigan yourself, instructions can be downloaded online from https://www.jwanderson.com/gb/cardigan-pattern, also including a pattern.
